Hey Friend,
I've always had the awareness that, if you look deep enough, you'll find spiritual truths in everything.
What we have to realize, though, is that these truths are wrapped up in symbolism, and that the symbols need to be decoded in order to understand what is really being communicated.
As a child, I sometimes had a hard time deciphering the symbols that I'd come across in reading the various biblical stories. Obviously, I knew, they couldn't be taken at face-value, that these stories weren't to be accepted as literal occurrences, but that they were symbols and metaphors.
One such story is that of the Tower of Babel. In fact, it wasn't until recently that I think I realized what this story was trying to tell me - and when it all came together, I was actually shocked at how obvious the underlying meaning is, and how, if you read it with an eye for the symbolism, it will change the way the entire Judeo-Christian mythology is viewed.
Just in case you slept your way through Sunday school, or for any other reason have never come across this story, let me give you a quick synopsis.
Now, before you click away, wondering "Why the hell is E.A. Koetting preaching the gospel," bear with me for just a minute, and you'll see how this one story actually demonstrates the lengths that the forces who are opposed to your rise to Godhood will go to stop you from realizing your full potential!
The story goes like this:
All of the people of the world came together to build a tower that would reach into the heavens. The underlying idea was that, if the tower was tall enough, the people could Ascend it into heaven, and know at last what lies above the physical realm. God saw this taking place, and in order to stop the construction of the tower, he placed a curse on mankind, so that they would speak in languages undiscernable to one another, therefore making collaboration and communication impossible.
At first glance, it's easy to say that this is just a myth that was made up in order to explain why people speak different languages. But, obviously, there's a lot more to it than that.
Yahwey, the Hebrew god, must have felt pretty threatened by this tower to make him act, and to move him to place a curse on all mankind. So, could this tower have actually reached into heaven?
Well, you should know by now that if you build a tower high enough, you're not going to reach into heaven, but into the upper atmosphere, and that without proper protective equipment, you wouldn't make it very high before the various atmospheric forces and elements would kill you.
What a lot of people don't know is that one of the most likely historical candidates for the real-world Tower of Babel is the Sumerian ziggaraut of Etemenanki, which would have served as a temple to the Sumerian god, Marduk. In this Temple, the priests of Marduk would perform divinations, evocations, and Soul Travel, which indeed do what the Tower of Babel promised: it would reveal the mysteries of hidden reality to the priests.
It's obviously absurd to think that Yahwey actually destroyed this magickal temple, and actually the real-life Etemenanki was eventually destroyed not by the hand of God, but by the hand of Alexander the Great.
Nevertheless, the Hebrews wanted people to believe that God had destroyed this tower, not necessarily as a testement to the power of their god, but as a warning.
The embedded warning is this: Yahwey will become angry if you try to discover the secrets of spirituality, instead of blindly trusting the mistranslated words of people who died thousands of years ago.
A more interesting part of this story, though, is the "confusion of tongues." Yahwey cursed mankind to speak in different languages so that they could not cooperate on attaining first-hand knowledge of spiritual truth. I've noticed in studying hundreds if not thousands of different religions and spiritual paths that for the most part, they're all saying the same thing, but using different terms.
In essence, every religion teaches the same thing, but in different languages, which makes them think that they are entirely different concepts. This keeps people of different faiths from being able to cooperate, thereby ensuring that none of them will ever be able to peek into the heavens and see for themselves what is there.
The funny part about this whole thing is that many of the world's mythological saviors - Jesus included - taught not blind obedience, but experiential understanding.
Take another bible story, that of Doubting Thomas...
While everyone else accepted that the materialization of the dead Jesus was real, Thomas doubted, and asked for proof. Jesus then allowed Thomas to touch his hands and to feel the wounds where he was supposedly nailed to the cross. Again, this isn't to be taken literally, but to be understood symbolically. The embedded symbol is that Thomas, because of his refusal to accept a spiritual reality without having it proven to him, was the only follower of Jesus who was allowed to touch his resurrected body.
And so it seems with every spiritual paradigm: those who come with a message of spiritual Ascent freely give their power and their knowledge to all who seek it, and gladly welcome the seekers to challenge their teachings and to discover the truth for themselves; while those who have not reached into the realms of self-godhood are afraid that if you learn how to become omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent, that you'll no longer need them. They want to keep you ignorant, rather than doing the work themselves and developing their own Godlike Powers.
I can think of a few closed-minded magick orders, staunch religions, and New Age schemes that require rigid acceptance of irrational dogma to gain initiation.
Can't you?
This is why I've declared a standing warrant to debate any public figurehead on any of my views, theories, practices, or ideas. I'm MORE than open to criticism, skepticism, or lively argumentation.
Sadly, I'm yet to be taken up on that guarantee. Perhaps because my intellectual opponents realize they are fighting a losing battle.
I'll talk to you again soon...
